Our Vaccine Policy
The act of vaccinating your child is one of the most profoundly important responsibilities we are committed to in preventing your child from developing serious illness and to promote health and wellness throughout your child’s life.
We firmly believe in the safety and efficacy of vaccines and recommend that you follow the prescribed schedule as adopted by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These vaccines have been developed over many years of research and scientific study. Given their extraordinary effectiveness, vaccines have prevented illnesses like Polio, Tetanus, Measles, Bacterial Meningitis and Chicken Pox to such a degree that most parents have never witnessed the consequences of these diseases. As a result, the perceived risk of developing these diseases has been so reduced that parents may progressively deny these dangers exist and thus decline certain vaccinations. This will allow for a resurgence of many serious infections.
We believe that, given all available data, scientific research and evidence-based medicine, that there is NO association between vaccines and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities. Additionally, Thimerosal, a preservative used in vaccines for decades, and that still remains in only a few vaccines, has never been shown to cause ASD or other developmental disabilities.
Though we firmly advocate the responsible acceptance of the AAP & CDC recommended schedule, we also recognize that you and your child are the ultimate arbiters of your child’s health and well-being. We seek to be respectful of your wishes and decisions but must also act in concert with public health officials and science to preserve the health of your child, the larger community and those that are most vulnerable in our society. For this reason, we have adopted a “red line” policy with respect to “non-vaccinators” and will not accept into our practice anyone who is unwilling to vaccinate their children in due course (as per requirements below).
Despite our willingness to work with parents who wish to delay or “break up” vaccines, we aim to engage and educate you at every appointment to encourage vaccination at the earliest opportunity to safely protect your child. We must explicitly express that such a choice (on your part not to vaccinate at the appropriate time) may put your child at risk for serious illness or death and is expressly against our medical advice. You will be required to sign a “Refusal to Vaccinate” acknowledgement that we will review at each subsequent visit. Should you ultimately be unwilling to follow the appropriate vaccination recommendations in a timely fashion despite our best efforts, you may be asked to find another healthcare provider.
It is with the utmost compassion that we express our belief that vaccinating your child is of the greatest importance. We are always available to discuss any concerns you may have.
